Ford Europe: Models to offer voice control

Ford navigation
Puuh, we never even thought about the possibility that we will mention Ford and "Foursprung" together in one sentence, but it seems like that Ford Europe equips their cars with a nice gadget: voice control!
Ford announced Thursday that the majority of its European models will offer Bluetooth wireless connectivity and voice control of onboard systems by early 2006. The technology has been test marketed on selected models since May 2005.

The voice system is integrated with the audio system, and is intended to provide a safe and convenient way to operate mobile phones, climate controls and entertainment equipment while driving. The system includes a specially-designed DSP microphone for optimum voice control in a noisy car environment, and uses the audio system speakers for all applications.

As Bluetooth-equipped phones become more common in the U.S., we would expect to see this technology migrate to the American market.
