LeMans: The ultimate test for a green car

LeMans
A UK-based producer of environmentally-friendly fuel is putting its product to the ultimate test by entering a "green" car into the gruelling 24-hours Le Mans race in France.
The D1 Lola B2K car, which runs on a blend of vegetable oil and diesel, will be pitted against high performance sports cars in the June race if it passes tests and qualifies over the next five months.

London-based D1 Oils developed its blend of "biodiesel" with seeds from the jatropha curcas tree, which are usually harvested for laxatives in South East Asia and Africa.

It will fuel a modified Volkswagen Touareg engine, which is currently undergoing safety tests in Maldon, Essex.

LeMans 2006 seems to be very interesting, because also Audi has announced to leave the usual track and start with a diesel-powered race car, called the Audi R10.
