Airbag: More safety for back-seat passengers

Ford inflatable seat belt
There are brands better known for passengers safety than Ford, e.g. Volvo, but now Ford presented their new inflatable seat belt concept.

The concept is designed specifically for second row passengers to further disperse the force of an impact over a wider contact area. Ford also has a version for the lap belt, although we think the shoulder belt bag would look great with a Pistons logo across it.

For the seat belts with air bags, Ford has developed a small, tubular-shaped inflatable bag that could be incorporated into the shoulder and lap belts of back seat passengers. The inflated bags would spread the force of an impact across a larger contact patch and lessen the chance of injury, as well as act as a sort of pretensioner to ensure the belts were positioned correctly before the force of a crash was transmitted to the occupant.
