Lamborghini: Price and spec update on the Lamborghini notebook

After several weeks of silence around the Lamborghini notebook by ASUS we can now give you a spec and price update on it.

Asus has dropped a few more hints about what's going to be inside its upcoming Lamborghini-branded notebook. The company confirmed this week that the machine will indeed be based on Intel's Centrino Duo platform, and said it will contain more than 1GB of memory and a hard drive offering over 120GB of storage capacity.

Asus launched the two machines (one black, the other yellow, both based on the Italian car maker's colours) in January. They are expected to ship in April, though the company didn't re-iterate that target when it showed the machines off this week.

The VX1 will incorporate a 15in display, Asus said, and claimed it will nonetheless weigh less than "most" 14in notebooks.

Curiously, the computer sports a red light on its lid, built into the raised section that's said by Asus' designers to reflect the tail-end and grille of a 1970 Lamborghini Miura. The red glow, they add, suggests the car's brake light. On the black model, however, it was more reminiscent of Knight Rider's car, Kitt, though also the light on the VX1 doesn't move from side to side. That's a case-mod challenge if there ever was one.

A company official also revealed Asus expects the machine to be priced between £1599 and £1799 when it ships.
