Foursprung: Be watched by your car

tyzx Logo
Watch out for being watched by your car.

The cars have eyes?
Not yet. But that's the idea behind Tyzx Inc., which comes up with 3-D technologies, reports Venture Wire.

Menlo Park-based Tyzx wants cars to be able to "see" the location of passengers and use that information to deploy airbags most effectively. Another possibility? Cars that can prevent accidents by "seeing" the location of pedestrians or other vehicles.

Takata Group, a Japanese manufacturer of automotive safety systems, aims to accelerate the use of this technology by ponying up $4 million that will support research and development.

Tyzx, founded in 2001 with seed investment from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, is based on research conducted at Allen's Interval Research Corp.

If Tyzx succeeds, we can envision an entire "Car Talk" show dedicated to cars that see, emceed by Click and Clack from the Good News Garage.
