Apple: Building GPS navigation for Mercedes!

Apple navigation
According to German magazine "Focus" Apple is working on a navigation system for cars. At the start in 2009, it will be exclusively available from Mercedes, but 6 months later the other vendors are allowed to follow.

It might be that Apple will also use Google Maps for their navigation solution as on the iPhone, but until now that's only speculation.

Apple is seeking to conquer every tiny space of your digital environment. Great move, but why start with such an old-fashioned and boring brand? Just because big Steve is driving Mercedes doesn't mean that this tie-up fits.

In-dash car PC from Korea

In-dash PC
Please watch this nice looking new in-dash car PC from SNT called IOPS. We really like in-dash car PC's over here, although we would love in-dash car Macs much more.
So, what's the catch here? Well, this thing is running on Windows XP and I don't really want to see a bluescreen in my car.
Thin infotainment system from SNT runs Windows XP, and its main input is the 7″ touchscreen. Of course it does GPS navigation in addition to receiving T-DMB channels - something the U.S. isn’t capable of just yet. IOPS comes with a hard disk drive on which you can record live TV, and then burn them on disc, all from the comfort of your car seat.
